  I love how every paradise picture ends up looking dated. For instance, in this picture Armageddon obviously came in the early '90s.

  Their main "evil" in my book is that they require, actually demand, blind acceptance of whatever their truth du jour happens to be.

  Yes! There's usually nothing wrong with having wrong ideas and misconceptions, we all have them in one way or another. It's when you demand under threat of 'death' that you be followed, and even those that do follow you micromanage and often ruin their lives, then it's no longer 'imperfection', it's just plain evil.   How do they know readers will be amazed?

  Because they SAID the readers would be amazed, and that's good enough for the sheep.

  Can they give a few specific examples as to what is so amazing?

  They call themselves the Faithful and Discreet Slave, but how discreet is it really to be constantly bragging about yourself? It flies in the face of numerous Christian teachings, like:

  1: 'Don't blow a trumpet ahead of yourself': They do this all the time, calling themselves God's one and only spokesman and way to salvation.

  2: 'He that exalts himself will be humiliated', and the illustration of the man who went to the head seat without being invited: They do this too, often, letting their praise come from themself.

  3: 'Dont let your left hand know what your right is doing': Always using disasters as commercials, filming vulnerable people and having them give on-camera testimony of how great "God's Organization" is when doing charity work.

  Married for 30 years

  today we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and my sons 16th birthday.

  i feel privileged to be able to show my appreciation and love for both the men in my life without feeling guilt.

  we left in 2009 as a family and have not regretted the choice.

  movies, TV shows etc. That show a facet of growing up a JW.

  there are quite a few movies and tv shows that i've seen discussed on this forum, that reflect the jw culture and teachings.

  like "invasion of the body snatchers" , the star trek "borgs".

  but i was thinking about certain episodes or portions of movies etc.

  That's the nice thing about art, whether it's stories, music, etc. Based on our personal life experiences certain things can seem like allegory even if they weren't intended that way. On my way out I experienced the same thing with Star Wars, with the empire's propaganda, thought and information control seeming to mirror the GB. One of the novels even had a story of a family where the parents were proud to give their daughter to serve the empire, but when she started to be critical of it she went missing. Even then the parents refused to accept the facts and we're loyal to the empire, but her brother became 'PIMO' if you will and stayed in to bring the empire down from within and save his family.

  Anti-witnessing mistake by me !

  a couple of times while i was anti-witnessing i have made a fundamental mistake, which was to try to show the believer that it was neither intellectually nor scientifically necessary for there to be a creator.

  the discussion got to this point because i said i was an atheist.. this latest time was talking to a street preacher who was not a j.w, but he did the same thing they do, i.e not really listen to the points i made, tried to rubbish science etc.. i have decided when, (if), this happens again i shall say something along the lines of " whoa there !

  you have done a huge leap from talking about your bible god to the matter of a creator, if i concede there was a creator, how can you prove it was your god ?".

  I'm a Christian, but I agree: Saying you don't believe in God shuts down the whole conversation. The most powerful way to reverse witness is to show that their own Bible contradicts their doctrine.
